Europe, covered one country at a time.

Route Edition is a travel publication for people who plan: where to go, when to go, how long to give it, and which neighborhood to sleep in. Italy is the current edition.

Four destinations, each covered from the same angles: the place itself, where to base yourself, and how to spend the days you have.

The decisions that shape a trip

Where to stay

Which neighborhood, and what you give up

Every guide asks the same question in the same order: which area suits how you travel, what it costs relative to the rest of the city, and what you trade by staying there.

No star ratings, no review counts, no invented prices.

After Italy

Route Edition builds depth before breadth. New countries are added as their coverage develops.

Behind Route Edition

Meet the editor

A person standing in a narrow stone-paved lane, looking up towards a bell tower rising above the rooftops.

I started Route Edition because European trip planning is usually answered in the wrong order. The questions that actually decide a trip — where to go, how long to give it, where to base yourself, and what each choice costs you — tend to arrive last, underneath a list of sights.

So the publication is built around those decisions instead. Recommendations are researched before they are made, and the trade-offs get written down rather than left out. Europe is the long-term scope. Italy is the first edition, and it is being covered properly before anything else starts.

Editorial

How these guides are written

Organized around decisions. Each guide is built around a choice a traveler has to make: when to go, how long to give it, where to base yourself.

Named, with a reason. Every recommendation names a specific place, says who it suits, and says what you give up by choosing it.

No placeholder pages. A guide appears when it is written, not before.
